Implantation Bleeding

Many women have not heard of Implantation Bleeding and instead interpret it as a sign of a light period. It is mostly pinkish and watery in appearance, though it may also be a brighter red colour. For the majority of women, implantation bleeding settles and stops within a day or two, not to return.
Implantation bleeding occurs about a few days or a week before the scheduled time of a woman’s menstrual period. Even if only spotting occurs, its occurrence after a week of ovulation may indicate it to be implantation bleeding. However, if spotting occurs just before the usual time when a period is supposed to occur, it will most likely be just a menstrual period. - See more at:
Implantation bleeding occurs about a few days or a week before the scheduled time of a woman’s menstrual period. Even if only spotting occurs, its occurrence after a week of ovulation may indicate it to be implantation bleeding. However, if spotting occurs just before the usual time when a period is supposed to occur, it will most likely be just a menstrual period. - See more at:

It normally occurs 1 week  after Ovulation (that's 3 weeks after the start of last period). Which is why implantation bleeding can be confusing because it can be interpreted as a light period and a sign of not being pregnant.  Women who are keen to conceive can become very upset at the sight of any blood loss and interpret this as a negative sign.

Implantation is the attachment of the fertilized egg to the uterine lining.  This happens when the fertilized egg (now called a Blastocyst) has completed its travel through the fallopian tube and adheres to the lining if the uterus.  Implantation happens on average 9 days after ovulation and fertilization with a range of between 6 and 12 days.

The most normal pattern of menstrual bleeding is that it will start slowly and will gradually increase to heavier bleeding. menstrual bleeding will last for several days while implantation bleeding lasts for les than a whole day and is usually much less bleeding. - See more at:
An implantation bleed occurs even before the pregnancy has been confirmed. Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin hormone (HCG) is the hormone which is detected in the pregnant mother’s urine. This is not produced until after the embryo has embedded in the uterus and there has been some very early development of the placenta. Which is why an implantation bleed occurs too early for even the most perceptive of couples to know with any certainty that they have created a baby.

Implantation Bleeding Period Bleeding
Scanty menstrual flow; on and off; spotty. Pattern is not normal. Light bleeding.  Normal flow; Light at first, then heavy, and then light again.
Lasts a few hours to 1-2 days 3-5 days on average, can last up to 7 days
Usually pinkish to brownish blood. No clots. Bright red blood. With a heavy flow, may include clots.
Mild to moderate menstrual-like cramps.      Menstrual cramps.

If you think you are experiencing implantation bleeding, you can go ahead and test for pregnancy like you normally would.  If there is HCG present, then the test will come back positive. If there is no HCG present in the urine, it will come back negative.
If for some reason the test is negative but you do not continue to bleed as you would with your period, test in 2-3 days to give you body time to produce the HCG. If you still have not started your period within a week and you do not get a positive test result, you may want to contact your doctor and ask her how you should proceed as he or she may want you to have a blood test done to determine if you are pregnant.

Take the Implantation Quiz to find out if your
bleeding or spotting is due to implantation

Pregnant? Beauty Products to Avoid

Decades ago, the belief was widely held that chemicals do not cross the placenta however we now know that mother's chemical exposure can affect her baby's chances for a normal, healthy life, especially in early pregnancy.  Should you worry? Well, don't let fears overwhelm your enjoyment of nine months of miracles. But do use common sense, and a little dose of facts, to help protect your little bundle of joy as much as you can.

Luxury Bath Products
This is good news for women who do not want to waste money buying expensive organic products for themselves during pregnancy: Tests by German green consumer magazine ├ľko-Test (Eco-Test) found that cheap shower creams were composed of safer ingredients. The high-end products used more exotic ingredients, frequently including chemicals that can cause allergies. So leave the stuff with the fancy names on the shelf and stick with a classic low-end soap for the shower.
Safer Solution: Buy products especially formulated for infants and children. Manufacturers make more effort to avoid questionable ingredients in these products.

Nail Care
Working in a nail salon made Time magazine's list of the worst jobs in America. Health problems experienced by workers include stillbirths, birth defects, and developmental issues, although no studies have been published on birth defects among nail workers. A North Carolina study did find an increased risk of spontaneous abortion among nail salon employees. Consumer campaigns prompted by these concerns have forced suppliers to reformulate and reduce the "toxic trio:" dibutyl phthalate, formaldehyde and toluene. But nail products continue to include many ingredients that are inadequately tested or which have raised concerns about reproductive toxicity. If you are just having your nails done once every couple of weeks, is that a "safe dose?" The fact is, no one knows. Better safe than sorry.
Nicer and Safer Nails: Even if your friends know you for having the most flamboyant painted nails, wear naked nails with pride when you are pregnant. Treat yourself to a manicure and/or pedicure without using any chemicals. Be sure to select a well-ventilated salon if you have it done professionally.

Spray-on Tanning

The Food and Drug Administration has approved Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) for use in chemical tanning. The DHA works by reacting with the dead layer of surface skin in much the same way bread browns when toasted. It has been shown not to absorb into the living skin below the dead layer, and is therefore considered safer than suntanning -- which is known to cause cancer. However, these approvals do not take into account the risks of inhaling the particles of spray that get into the air during "tanning".  Studies suggest that DHA can cause primary DNA damage. There is no test data publicly available on development toxicity. Bottom line: spray-on tans may be healthier when applied with proper protections on healthy adults, but it's not worth the (mostly unknown) risk to your developing fetus. Elevated body temperature can also be dangerous to your unborn baby, so tanning beds are not a good option either.
Safer Solution:  Let your skin show your pregnancy 'glow' and Spin your skin as "porcelain" not "pale."

Chemical Hair Removal
Some form of Thioglycolic Acid is usually the active ingredient in hair removal products. There are no studies showing that this chemical is unsafe on the skin during pregnancy. But there are also no studies showing it is safe. The Thioglycolic Acid reacts chemically with disulfide bonds in hair. Because these ingredients are aggressive enough to react chemically, and no studies have been done to detect potential reprotoxic effects, we recommend the precautionary principle: Leave these on the shelf until after the pregnancy.
Safer Solution:  Get your shaver out during pregnancy and way not get your partner involved. Create a special bond as he helps you shave those places you can no longer even see!

Heavy Fragrances

Many fragrances contain phthalates as carriers. There are a wide range of phthalates, some of which are less harmful than others. But these ingredients are rarely disclosed on labels, hiding behind the general descriptor fragrance. If you are not certain the product is free of phthalates with potential for reproductive toxicity, it is better to avoid it during pregnancy. Phthalates can imitate natural hormones in the body responsible for the proper growth and development of a fetus. Because growth is very sensitive to small concentrations of these hormones, it is considered dangerous to have even low levels of exposure during pregnancy.
Safer Solution: Be fragrance-free.While you are minimizing perfumed beauty products, do away with air fresheners and any other product intended to release scent.

Traditional tattoos involve needles, and therefore direct contact with your bloodstream. The risk of disease transmission is not high, but not worth taking at this delicate time in life. As usual, little information is known about the effects of the tattoo dyes on your baby's growth. The deliberate penetration of the skin's boundaries adds an additional level of exposure potential. The dyestuff used in the tattoo industry is not regulated in the same manner as cosmetics, and that so-called azo dyes may split into carcinogenic amines in the bloodstream in case tattoo removal by laser treatment is undertaken. Finally, some tattoo inks can cause allergies. It is rare, but when it occurs, a very severe reaction can arise since the dyes have entered the bloodstream.
Safer Solution: If you cannot resist some body art to celebrate the new arrival, get a natural henna tattoo (as illustrated above). This is not permanent, but celebrates the changes in your body. Leave this one for your third trimester to be really sure the risks are acceptable. But CAUTION: Be sure you are using natural henna, which is never black. Black henna is a synthetic chemical, para-phenylendiamine (PPD), and it is not safe for anyone.

Hair Care

First, some good news. New studies seem to have overturned earlier studies that suggested a link to bladder cancer or miscarriage in hair salon employees. Nonetheless, studies continue to find links between occupational exposure in hair salons and birth defects. A couple of hours getting your hair done is certainly less than the long-term exposure your beautician faces, but it is one more vector for exposure that can be avoided.
Safer Solution: Skip the dyes and highlights. Buy a natural bristle hairbrush and enjoy a cup of tea while treating your hair to a hundred strokes. If you absolutely must freshen up your color, wait until at least the second trimester.

A little about Ovulation

Ovulation Chart

Ovulation is a phase of the female menstrual cycle that involves the release of an egg (ovum) from one of the ovaries and generally occurs about two weeks before the onset of the menstrual period.

Typical ovulation symptoms and signs include changes in cervical mucus, abdominal pain and a small rise in basal temperature.

For most women, ovulation occurs about once every month apart from when pregnant or breastfeeding.  However, some women experience irregular ovulation or no ovulation at all which makes it difficult to use 'timing' for baby gender selection.

The Cervical Mucus is one of the signs your body sends out to let you know ovulation is approaching and can assist with the timing of baby gender selection. The more you know of how your body works, the easier it is to achieve it!!

Fertile mucus helps the sperm find its way into the cervix.  After ovulation the hormone progesterone causes the mucus to change to an infertile type within a day or two. The mucus diminishes in quantity, becoming thick, sticky, preventing sperm  from entering the uterus.

A typical example below based on a regular 28 day cycle:

Breast Milk or Formula?

This is one of the first decisions the expectant mum has to make.

Experts say Breast milk is the ideal food for growing babies. It gives infants all the nutrients they need for healthy development, has a perfect balance of fat and calories. It is safe and contains antibodies that help protect infants from common childhood illnesses.

Sheetles Method

Although breastfeeding is a natural and healthy process, it doesn't come naturally (or easily) to all mums.

I was lucky enough to be able to breastfeed all my babies.  By the time I breast fed my third baby I was an expert at it. I could breastfeed in public and no one could tell.  All Thanks to the persistent midwives ,as I was ready to give up by the 3rd day after trying to breastfeed my 1st son!!

On the other hand, my sister-in-law had a totally different experience.  Persisted with breastfeeding her first baby for 4 weeks but she could hardly produced any milk, her baby was loosing weight, it was heartbreaking!  Couldn't cope with it any more so in the middle of the night, got her husband to go and find a can of Formula milk and never looked back.  Happily formula feeding her now 3rd baby ;)

Some mums feel guilty by not being able to breastfeed their baby.  Whether you Breast or Bottle Feed, you bond with your baby just fine, as it's an important part of connection between mum and baby.

It is a hard decision to make, but here are some points you may wish to consider :-

* Antibodies passed from a nursing mother to her baby can help lower infection
* Breast Milk is easily digested by a newborn's immature system (therefore breastfeed babies eat more frequent than formula fed babies)
* It's convenient, there's no need to warm up bottles in the middle of the night or last minute rushing to the shops
* A nursing mother will usually need 500 extra calories per day, which means that she should      eat a wide variety of well-balanced foods. This introduces breastfed babies to different
tastes through their mothers' breast milk (need to be aware of what you eat and drink, since things can be passed to the baby through the breast milk)
* It's free & most of all
* It's beneficial for mum too. Breastfeeding burns calories and helps shrink the uterus, so nursing moms may be able to return to their pre-pregnancy shape and weight quicker. Also studies show that breastfeeding helps lower the risk of breast cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. It may help decrease the risk of uterine and ovarian cancer

Formula Feeding

* A nutritious alternative to breast milk and even contain some vitamins and nutrients that breastfed babies need to get from supplements
* It's convenient and flexible to a working mother. Once bottles are made the partner/caregiver can feed the baby a bottle at any time (although this is also true for women who pump their breast milk)
* Because formula is less digestible than breast milk, formula-fed babies usually need to eat less often than do breastfed babies
* Mums who opt to formula feed don't have to worry about the things they eat or drink that could affect their babies
* It's expensive
* Carefully follow directions on how to mix with water and quantities

Whatever option you choose, be sure to talk to your doctor about the choices available to help you make the decision that's best for both you and your baby.

Boy Mums...Are You Secretly Longing for a Girl?

Hello to all my readers, Here is a short video which I hope might help you with baby gender selection.
At the end of the day, We all love our children regardless of their gender. But why not make it fun and try to maybe complete your family with the opposite sex?
Timing is a proven method if done correctly!! You have nothing to loose!!

Nausea & Vomiting During Pregnancy

"I'm only 5 1/2 weeks, isn't it too early to be vomiting 24hrs a day and have a tummy that looks like I'm 4 months??"  This is the question I was asking myself with my 1st pregnancy!!!

Well, I've learned that  feeling sick rather than feeling great in the early days of pregnancy is very common and completely normal. Some women are just simply "luckier" than others to have very mild queasiness when they first wake up in the morning and go of to enjoy the rest of the day, while others (like me) have to endure weeks or even months of feeling or being sick all day long.

I was working at the time and found it very hard as my pregnancy sickness was day and night and lasted for the whole 8 months!!! :(  Did I not mention that I was hospitalized twice for dehydration too.

The same happened for my 2nd and 3rd pregnancies. But this time I was suggested to take Vitamin B6 which took 4 weeks to kick in but helped a bit and then the hospital subscribed me with some very expensive tablets (the ones they give to their cancer patients to control the vomiting). But was only 10 in the packet... how was I meant to least for the other 4 months??   So here are some helpful tips that can help you too:

• Take Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) (along with your folic acid) while trying to conceive so you may get less severe symptoms. As it takes about 4 -5 weeks to kick in, if you wait till you find out your are pregnant then you will have to put up with pregnancy sickness for 4-5 weeks until it starts working. But always check with your doctor before taking any supplements in pregnancy.

• Eat little but often avoiding rich, spicy, acidic or fried foods. But anything that's easy to eat and keep down and hasn't got a strong smell,

• Keep some plain biscuits by your bedside,

• Limit drinks during meals but be sure to drink regularly - "I'm sure you don't wanna hear about the time I drunk a glass of water just after I had spaghetti with sauce" :/

• Try and get as much rest as possible and if you can take time off work ..take it!!

• Make ginger tea. It did not help me personally but It could help you as we
are all so different  :)

• Wearing Stylish & Fashionable acupressure Bracelets - available at

Most Important, talking things over with other mums who have been in the same situation can help too and might get great tips!!!

Can Timing Work for you..

You maybe breastfeeding for a few months, then decide to go on birth control until the time comes that you want another baby!  Since you only have boys or girls, you would love to try for the opposite sex.       So you make the decision to stop the birth control,-  for instance Feb - and decide to try the popular Timing Method in March.  Well......that's the 1st Mistake!!

Unfortunately, a lot of women think that as soon as they come off birth control (same goes with breastfeeding) they are ready to use this method of baby gender selection!!!

"Breastfeeding and Hormonal Birth control influences the monthly menstrual Cycle,

so in order to use the timing method we need to see a regular period without such influence"

and it takes 3-6 cycles in order to get this RIGHT. (as every woman is different)

Really.... 3-6 cycles...isn't that a really long time?
No, you need to be able to pinpoint Ovulation without relying on Ovulation Prediction Kits (OPK)
They do not work for every woman and especially when trying for a girl, it just doesn't give you the 3 day gap you need (from intercourse to Ovulation).
So a few extra months is not a lot in order to get the baby gender you desire :)

Should you want to know whether 'timing' can work for you...
All you have to do is fill this SIMPLE & FREE Questionnaire, and we'll take it from there.

Here's a Snapshot.
How to Conceive a baby Girl, How to Conceive a Baby Boy

Conception MYTHS

It’s easy to get pregnant!!
How to conceive a baby Girl, How to Conceive a baby Boy
For many people, it's not easy!!!!!!    There are many factors that can affect the woman's ability to get pregnant.  These include the correct Timing of intercourse,  age,  health problems,  stress and a range of other variables. Yet family and friends often ask…
      “Why aren’t you pregnant yet?”
      “What are you waiting for...?”
      “What’s wrong with you?”
and this adds to the stress of already trying to conceive..

Baby Gender Selection Ovulation happens on the 14th day!!
Well, not necessarily, unless ofcourse you have a perfect, consistent, 28 day cycle every month after month then maybe the 14th day is when ovulation happens !!!!
But for most women this is simply not true and should not rely on the 'average' 28 day cycle when trying to conceive. The word 'average,' it does not mean that your cycles always last 28 days, nor does it mean that they normally last 28 days. Your cycles can be different from one woman to the other.
Observing your fertility signs can help you pinpoint ovulation.

Baby Gender Selection
If we have sex regularly, I will get pregnant
You can have all the sex you want, but unless you have sex
during your most fertile window (a few days prior Ovulation and
on Ovulation day) you will not conceive. So you can have sex
25 days out of the whole  month and still manage to
miss Ovulation.  So timing is the key!!
(especially if trying to conceive a specific baby gender)

We already have a child,it will be easy to conceive again!!
Maybe, but there is no guarantee!!! Many couples experience infertility or difficulty conceiving a second, third or even a fourth child. This is often caused by age related factors. We tend to wait these days don't we??  Infertility is the inability to conceive after regular, unprotected intercourse after 12 months or 6 months if a woman is over 35.
Have a look at the chart below,  Whats your % in conceiving within 12 months?

Baby Gender Selection

If you are having problems conceiving you should always talk to your doctor or a fertility specialist.

Baby Gender Selection
I will conceive as soon as I stop taking hormonal birth control
This is probably the most asked question. The answer to this is You can get pregnant as soon as your body is ovulating again (as long as there are not any underlying fertility concerns). Some women’s fertility returns as soon as they stop taking the pill and others take a few months. It is not uncommon to have long or irregular cycles for the first two to three cycles after going off the pill. Should you wish to try for a specific baby gender then you must wait till your periods are regular before trying.

A woman's menstrual cycle begins when she starts spotting
Baby Gender Selection Method
Your menstrual cycle (period) begins on the first day you see bright red blood (brown spotting does not count).
Women are often unsure of the significance of spotting. They think that the spotting signals the start of their period, and count the spotting as Day 1 (CD1). Actually, the spotting is pre-menstrual spotting, and should be ignored. Only the start of a proper flow is considered to be Day 1. If they miscalculate, they end up mis-charting their entire cycle.

You cannot get pregnant while breastfeeding

Baby Gender Selection

This is based on the fact that constant breastfeeding during the first months of your baby's life will delay the menstrual cycle. However, when your body decides to release the first postnatal egg, ovulation occurs before menstruation resumes. So you won't know you ovulated for two weeks until you get your period(if you get it that is!!!)
There are Strict Breastfeeding Rules you can follow should you wish to use breastfeeding as a contraceptive.
